A boutique clothing brand hired us to tighten their email security with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. While auditing their Google Workspace, we spotted a costly overlap. Their licences already included several terabytes of Google Drive storage, sitting unused, yet they still paid close to five figures a year for Dropbox.
How we moved them across
Once the client signed off, we planned and ran a full Dropbox to Google Drive migration for 40 users, in four stages:
- Audit. We catalogued the whole Dropbox setup: folder structure, each user’s permissions, and which files needed their version history kept.
- Migration. We copied the full dataset to Google Drive and mirrored the folder layout and sharing permissions exactly. Historical file versions came across too.
- Testing. We ran integrity checks, then gave a pilot group access to validate everything in real use before the wider rollout.
- Cutover and training. We agreed a switch-over date, retired Dropbox, and trained every user on Google Drive the same day so nobody lost momentum.
The result
The move caused no disruption to daily work. The business cancelled its Dropbox subscription, saving the annual fee, and consolidated onto one platform it already paid for, with stronger admin controls and native links to the rest of Google Workspace.
