A new office network, built and tested before moving day

An office move is one of the riskiest IT events a business faces. If the network is not ready on day one, a team of 10 to 15 people sits idle, and that costs real money. This client wanted a high-speed, secure, and reliable network before anyone arrived.

What we built

We handled the whole network: security, switching and wireless, built on Ubiquiti’s UniFi platform so every device reports to one controller. That keeps day-to-day management simple and lets us monitor the whole network from anywhere.

The setup has three layers:

  • Perimeter security. A Ubiquiti UniFi Gateway (UXG) runs as the firewall and router, handling the internet uplink, NAT, routing between networks, and threat filtering.
  • Core switching. A UniFi PoE switch powers every access point and wired device over the network cable, so no node needs its own power supply.
  • Wireless. Several UniFi access points cover the office with Wi-Fi 6, and no dead spots.

Keeping traffic separated

Putting every device on one flat network is a security and performance risk. We split the traffic into separate VLANs:

  • Corporate. Work machines and business-critical devices, with tight rules on what can reach what.
  • Guest. Internet access for visitors, with no route into your systems.
  • Devices. Printers, smart devices and anything unmanaged, kept away from the work machines.

The gateway enforces these boundaries, so a compromised guest or IoT device cannot reach corporate data.

Ready before the move

We installed, configured and tested everything in the new office before the client’s move date:

  • Cabling and a structured patch panel
  • The UniFi controller, set up with site-wide policies
  • Wi-Fi networks with WPA3 encryption and band steering
  • DNS and DHCP, with fixed addresses for key devices
  • A VPN for secure remote management
  • Speed and signal tests at every desk and meeting room

The team arrived to a working network. Everyone was online within the first 10 minutes, and nobody reported a connectivity problem during or after the move.

What happens now

Because everything runs on UniFi, we keep remote eyes on the whole network. We handle firmware updates, configuration changes, traffic checks and alerts centrally, so the client gets a fully managed network without hiring anyone in-house.

Planning an office move or a network refresh? We handle the full setup so your team walks into a working office. Get in touch to talk it through.
